Error codes
Is your e-scooter showing an error code on the display? Don't worry. Many codes can be resolved at home with a few simple checks.
General steps before you start
- Switch the scooter off and place it on a stable surface.
- Check for loose or disconnected cables around the handlebar, stem, and charging port.
- Restart the scooter after each step to see if the code has cleared.
Error code overview
Code | Fault | Meaning | Action |
E1 | Brake Error | Communication fault between brake lever and control unit (VCU). May also affect regenerative braking. | Do not ride. Scooter must be inspected by a Pure service centre. |
F1 | Brake Fault | Brake lever not returning to the off position when switched on. | Release the brake and restart the scooter. If code persists, send to Pure. |
E2 | Throttle Error | Throttle communication issue between throttle and control unit (VCU). | Requires service centre attention. |
F2 | Throttle Fault | Throttle not returning to the off position when switched on. | Release throttle and restart. If code persists, send to Pure. |
E3 | Communication Error | Communication data between MCU and VCU failed. Do not perform on Advance, McLaren or Escape models. | Switch off, remove 4 stem screws, remove handlebars, disconnect and firmly reconnect cable. Restart. |
E4 | Motor Overcurrent | Motor drawing excessive power due to internal short or connection damage. Scooter shuts down. | Motor and wiring inspection by Pure technicians required. |
E5 | Battery Undervoltage | Battery voltage too low, usually caused by a flat battery. | Charge for at least 10 hours using the official Pure charger. Error clears once fully charged. |
E6 | Battery Overvoltage | Battery voltage too high, e.g. after long downhill with regenerative braking. | Error clears after riding on flat or uphill. If persistent, send to Pure. |
E7 | Motor Hall Sensor Error | Motor sensor failure or damaged motor cable. Causes jerky or noisy motor performance. | Service centre to test and replace affected component. |
E9 | MCU Overtemperature | MCU temperature above 105 °C. Caused by riding too hard or too long in high temperatures. | Allow to cool for at least 1 hour. If code persists, send to Pure. |
E11 | Motor Overheating | Motor temperature above 125 °C. Caused by extended riding in high ambient temperatures. | Allow to cool down. If code persists, send to Pure. |
E13 | Battery Communication Error | Communication problem between MCU and battery. Scooter may appear to charge but cannot switch on. | Restart the scooter. If code persists, send to Pure. |
Helpful tips
- Keep tyres at 2.5 bar (36 PSI) to reduce motor strain and overheating.
- Only use the official Pure charger for safe charging.
- After extended storage: charge the scooter for 6 to 10 hours to wake up the battery.
- For E1 errors on the Pure Air 5 Ultra (Gen 3 and 4): check that the cable connector at the handlebar stem is properly tightened.
Getting support
If your scooter still shows an error code after the steps above:
- Switch the scooter off and do not ride it again.
- Take a photo or short video of the error code on the display.
- Email [email protected] with your order number (PS...) and the photo.
